Hello! My name is Ian Wilmoth, I am a 3d/VFX Generalist. I have 10+ years freelance experience at leading NYC and LA post houses. I create content for short-form, advertising, episodic, features, interactive, and experiential, including pre and postvis. Previously I was a staffer creating AAA 3d game assets and cinematics at Valve and WB Games. Before that, I created the first-ever 3d CGI animation degree project at the Rhode Island School of Design. I use Maya, Nuke, After Effects, PFtrack, Redshift, Vray & more. I am not a designer and I do not do 2d animation or motion graphics.
I work with clients in a variety of ways depending on the project’s needs. I am at home in many discrete roles- Modeler, Look Dev, Lighter, Character Animation, Dynamics, CFX, VFX, Post, Rigging, AI etc. However, I bring the most value to the table by working in adjacent roles, minimizing handoffs between artists as production goes forward. For example I often model and look dev the same assets, light shots and also do slap comps, or do rigging, CFX, and animate on the same characters. I can also do VFX generalist tasks such as photoreal 3d integration, match moving, roto, and object removal. Given sufficient time, I can do many complete VFX shots and even entire 3d animated films by myself, including all post elements.
